EAn Introduction
June was a chaotic month at EAN with our EOFY membership promotion in place. With just over 40% of all current members using that period to either renew / extend their existing Membership or taking out new Membership, our accounts department was kept very busy tracking invoices. Thank you to those of you who took the opportunity and saved 20% on their annual fee. To those who missed out this year, remember it is an annual event and even if you pay your membership in the interim, you can always extend it beyond the then due expiry date at the discounted rate during our next EOFY promotion.
It was also a very busy period for people joining as new Associate members with people wanting to experience what our entry level membership offers so to all of these new members, welcome and we trust that you will get a lot out of your membership.
The EAN team spent a planning day in June focused on membership benefits and the website. We had identified, amongst other things, that some Members have been finding it difficult to know where to access the member only sections of the website, including their account details, so we focussed on what simple amendments to the website we could make to make it more user friendly as well as some other initiatives focussed on broader member benefits.
To that end, we also plan to conduct a survey for members in the coming months. Over the past 11 years we have conducted a number of surveys with members that have had far reaching impact on a number of industries, with this one we are planning now, we want to focus on improvements to your Network, so it is an exciting and integral part of our planning for the future.
In recent months we have held a number of excellent Networking events, including our largest ever event in Melbourne, an event on the penultimate night of Vivid in Sydney in a waterside Circular Quay venue, plus an excellent night out with what we have been told was simply stunning food in Brisbane.
A couple of months ago we started work on a couple of animated ‘explainer’ type videos which we hope to be able to unveil very soon. One is for EAs and PAs to help outline the benefits of membership to new prospects, the other is aimed at corporate executives and explains why we believe many organisations would benefit substantially if they invested more in EA and PA development.
Finally, our webinar series. To date we have held four webinars with Craig Rispin, all of which were very well received. We are working on creating more interesting content with Craig but we are also speaking with a few other industry experts about conducting useful practical webinars for our members. We will keep you updated with details for our next webinar soon.
It is hard to believe we are half way through 2016 and already started a new financial year. We wish you and yours all the best for this next financial period and look forward to doing what we can to support you in your roles.

Managing Executive Focus, Energy,
Mind-Set and Priorities

Many people believe that managing the office of an executive is primarily focussed around the ‘doing’ aspects of the role; the tasks related elements where the more you do, and the less the executive does, the more you free up their time.
To an extent this is true, and it is certainly true that where EAs are proactive rather than reactive, where they are managing rather than directed, the Executive can spend more time in peak flow and not constantly have to worry about directing work to others or focusing on the minutia of the things that happen in their office. Essentially, more time focussed on higher thought or more strategic activities.
But there are other elements to the role we have noticed that the truly exceptional EAs achieve, and these are the things that really help define the partnership between an EA and executive when it is at its best.
To be truly proactive means fully knowing and understanding the relative priorities of an executive at any time, and to do this you have to have the breadth and depth of knowledge of your business specifically, and your industry more generally, as well as having the level of general business acumen needed to know the strategic steps that are needed at certain times.
