EAn Introduction

Last month we shared our thoughts from a planning day we held to discuss membership. As you would have hopefully noticed, the survey we heralded last month has already been sent out and is already providing a lot of great constructive feedback. So please, if you haven’t had your say, we encourage you to do so. And if you want to add a testimonial in at the end of your survey feedback for our website, that would be great. We know a lot of our members have been with us for many years, some from inception almost 11 years ago, so it would be great to hear about why you love the Network, how you find it valuable and what it means for you, your life and your role – in addition of course to what we can do to make it better.

Some of you have also hopefully noticed a couple of minor changes already made to the website, in an attempt to make it easier for users. These included moving the Member Resources access button and drop downs, changing some of the menu names used, and also moving a few other elements on the homepage.

On the Home Page, some of you might also have noticed a new animated video we have just produced for EAs and PAs who discover us and don’t know what membership is about or why they should join.

This video is aimed at EAs and PAs who don’t know who we are and what we do, and to try and show them why joining EAN is a beneficial thing to do. If you haven’t already seen it, we have included a link below for you to view.

We have also just finished another animated video, this one aimed at executives. As our chat room discussions have recently shown, and indeed as our own research continues to reinforce, we know that we need to communicate as much with executives as we do our members moving forward. We’ve talked about that in recent editions of this newsletter and you would have all received an email from Jonathan McIlroy on the topic.

We are absolutely committed to ensuring that we can get our vision for the role of EAs and PAs in front of executives, to educate them as much as possible about how to use their EAs more productively, but also just about how to work with them and forge a truly powerful partnership.

Aligned to that is our vision for education for EAs and PAs but it is not the only answer. Enlightenment is a major factor we need to focus on. So this video is a part of that initiative and forms just one further starting point of where we aim to take our journey and story to the executives of Australia and beyond.

Other significant changes in the wind at EAN include a renewed effort to ensure that we secure the partners we need to guarantee a regular stream of Networking events and even famils in each state and these are definitely now paying dividends. Read the separate article below to see just how many events we have already confirmed and how many more are in the pipeline.

For those of you interested in our exhibitions, in an enormous first for EAN, thanks to our National Platinum Partner QBT, and their close industry colleagues at Etihad Airways, one of the more than 30 prizes on offer at our Canberra conference last month was 2 FREE tickets to anywhere in the world within the Etihad Network. This was quite an outstanding prize and, as you can imagine, was extremely popular. At the time of writing we don’t have the winner but rest assured they will be announced here next month. As you can also imagine, we are strenuously lobbying QBT and Etihad to repeat this prize offer at or future exhibition in the next 12 months. We will keep you updated on that progress!!

Some time ago we wrote about our desire to establish an EAN charitable trust. That desire as not abated and we do intend to do just that, once we get a few other vital aspects of our work here bedded down. However, we have been considering what this delay means for our charitable giving and support and decided we needed to do more to help at least one organisation in the interim. And we have now found and selected that organisation.

So EAN can announce that for the next 2 years we will be working extremely closely with Children’s Cancer Institute to help them on their vital role in helping to eradicate Childhood cancer.

Decades ago, a diagnosis of childhood cancer brought a very dire prognosis, but now, thanks to a global pioneering approach to treating childhood cancers in Australia, including designing a bespoke treatment plan from the Institute for EVERY single child in Australia who gets a childhood cancer, the work of the CCI is helping to ensure that approaching 8 out of 10 children now survive, and also that most of those do so with much improved quality of life afterwards than they previously might have had.

They have ambitious goals to make that 10 / 10. And we are committed to helping them achieve their goal.

As a starting point we will be helping them by promoting their ‘Dare the Boss’ campaign this year and we would so encourage as many of you who can to get involved.

Our very own Natasha Cannon is going to be flying the flag for EAN and we have come up with a very exciting dare for her. She isn’t happy but we will be keeping you updated on her progress as we go, and will try, if possible, to get her dare filmed (or at least heavily photographed) for a future edition.

Stay tuned for an email with the all the details. We know we can have a whole lot of fun with this campaign and realise very greatly needed funds for the institute, so please join us if you can by getting involved and daring some bosses in your organisation to do something silly, dangerous, exotic or, maybe just a little zany.

Some 3 months out from our next Diploma intake commences, or our next round of Short Courses are held, one might think it would be quiet here with bookings and registrations, but you would be very wrong.

We already have 43 people registered to attend short courses in October, 10 of these being registered to attend the Sydney Event Planning & Masterclass event.

In addition, we already have 23 registrations for our next Diploma intakes.

Now given that we typically get 50% of registrations in the last 6 weeks before an event date, we are extremely optimistic that doing this well so far out should lead to some more great classes for EAs and PAs.
