With 3 different venues conveniently located within Melbourne’s CBD, Rare has plenty of interesting dining spaces. If you’re looking for a cosy and comfortable venue, understated elegance and old-world sophistication, then Rare Midtown may just be the vibe you’re after. With a relaxed and informal sense of style, Midtown is located in the centre of Melbourne for optimal convenience. Midtown can cater for up to 50 people in our upstairs room, whilst our ground level area is suitable for functions of up to 30 people.

At the top end of town, Rare Uptown is intimate and refined. Located in close proximity to Melbourne’s best theatres, this venue is ideal for pre-theatre functions, all types of gatherings and great for business lunches. The versatile main dining area is perfect for both groups and intimate date nights alike. The warm lighting, high ceilings and brick interior provides a soft inviting space to relax and indulge in truly wonderful environment.

Uptown is the only venue available for whole venue hire, giving you the opportunity to create a truly exclusive experience. The whole venue is suitable for functions of up to 100 people. The Downstairs area can also cater for functions of around 75 people, whilst the Mezzanine area is suitable for groups of up to 40 guests. There’s also a bar area and a wine library, with some of our favourite vintages available for customer selection.

Some may argue that Rare Downtown is the piece de resistance in our enviable repertoire of venue locations. Ideally located at the south end of the city, this bluestone heritage offers 3 levels of dining. The mezzanine level gives up impressive views and is an ideal space for semi private dining and suitable for functions of up to 22 guests. For those who prefer a more sequestered spot for their special event, our third level is available for private functions of up to 30 guests. It has its own bar and is ideal for any event.

At Rare we create fresh, wholesome dishes and we strive to offer very excellent service. We want to make sure that everyone who walks through our doors feels special and leaves feeling comfortable and satisfied. Rare takes dietaries very seriously and we welcome any discussion around ingredients. It goes without saying that we source the best quality beef there is. In a world of diversity, we have plenty of plant-based options on the menu for everyone to enjoy and we’re really excellent at desserts. For your event, we can assemble specially curated dessert boards and even custom cocktails and liquid desserts! There’s a lot to choose from – perhaps a feasting set menu for two, or set menu options beginning at only $45 per person.

At Rare, we regularly host whisky, wine and beer tasting events, featuring representatives and produce from Australia’s finest wineries and distilleries. We can tailor and make available some of these wonderful brews, wines and whiskies for your event as well.
