DOES CORPORATE GIFT GIVING ACTUALLY WORK?
The battle for new customers and retaining your existing clients is an ongoing challenge for all businesses. One way to stand out from the crowd is to show your appreciation for your customers and staff with exceptional quality gifts. But will this really achieve those benefits? Does gift giving actually work for business?
Customers have a world of information at their fingertips, giving them the ability to change their suppliers more easily than ever. Keeping your existing clients is five times less expensive than replacing them with new ones, so how can you make sure you are doing everything you can to do retain these clients?
One thing you can do is make sure those clients feel valued and connected to your business, by surprising them with unexpected, beautifully presented gifts.
At Gourmet Basket we surveyed our corporate clients about their corporate gifting experiences to find out why and how they do it. Here is a summary of those findings:
Who is receiving corporate gifts?
-
65% send gifts to Clients
-
38% send gifts to both clients and staff
There are so many reasons to thank your clients and staff. You can celebrate a new business deal, congratulate them on a new baby, new home or job promotion. Say Merry Christmas or thanks for your loyalty this financial year. Whatever the reason you choose, the act of sending them a gift will generate a tangible return for your business, be it repeat purchases, a referral or a recommendation.
For what reasons?
-
88% Send gifts to say Thank You
-
13% Sent gifts for multiple occasions
Those who reported they sent gifts for ‘multiple occasions’ stated reasons like – a new baby, birthdays, thank you or to celebrate a new property investment. Sending gifts throughout the year can generate a bigger impact, compared with just at Christmas when it’s easy to be lost in the influx of gifts and cards.
How much do they spend?
-
64% spend between $100 and $150 per gift
The budget for each individual gift of course depends on who you who will receive it and the value that relationships holds. For example, a CEO would receive a hamper of significantly higher value, compared with a new baby gift for a member of staff. But don’t go ‘cheap’ – remember the gift reflects your value in that person – it is better to give nothing than to give a gift that looks, or appears low cost.
What impact did these gifts have on business?
100% Reported a positive impact on their business
100 % of our corporate customers reported that sending gifts had a POSITIVE IMPACT on their business and they will continue to SEND GIFTS AGAIN in the future. It is clear from these figures that these businesses see significant value in this exercise, or they simply would not continue to send gifts year after year.
SUMMARY : FOUR REASONS TO SEND CORPORATE GIFTS:
We can see from our survey how businesses are using gifting to enhance their customer relationships – but why else would you send gifts?
1. Build loyalty by creating good-will and increased trust, from showing your customers and clients that you value their business
2. Be remembered each time your customers see, or uses the gift you have sent them
3. Generate referrals, by giving your customers a story (or delicious gourmet items) to share – bring you into the conversation with potential new customers, without even asking them to
4. Ensures you stand out, because your competitors aren’t doing it!
And don’t forget your staff, because happy employees that feel valued stay with you longer, work harder and save you time and money on searching for good people to bring into your business.
