ENTERTAINMENT A BIG HIT AT ETIHAD
If you’re partial to sport and entertainment and let’s face it, most of us are, then you most likely followed some of the media dialogue over recent months, relating to the ownership of the Melbourne landmark, Etihad Stadium.
By now you’ve probably read or heard that the stadium has been purchased by the AFL and therefore, your first thought could well have been that it’s set to become exclusively a venue for just footy and its legion of fans. Well not true!
In fact, if your interest is more towards entertainment events than the football codes, then with Christmas in the offing, the events calendar at Etihad is definitely worth serious consideration.
When the transition of the ownership occurred just a few weeks ago, the CEOs of both organisations, Gill McLachlan (AFL) and Michael Green (Etihad Stadium) were at pains to point out that Etihad Stadium will continue to function as a multi-purpose venue.
The famous retractable roofed venue which throughout its life time has hosted AFL and A-League, as well as the Socceroos and Big Bash T20 cricket, even a world title fight and international speedway will continue to offer the most diverse range of events.
In the build up to next year’s AFL season, there’ll still be appearances by the popular A-League club Melbourne Victory while another stadium tenant, the Melbourne Renegades will also light up the venue, as the likes of Australian big hitter Aaron Finch tries to smash the cricket ball either out of the Stadium or at least as far as its retractable roof.
But for much of December through to March, sportsmen won’t be the only focus on centre stage!
Some of the biggest names drawing the biggest crowds will be Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Adele, no less!
Tickets are already proving to be absolute hot commodities.
Stadium managers are forecasting as many as 300,000 fans will clamour for tickets.
Coldplay will perform on December 9 and 10. The incredibly popular Justin Bieber will be on stage on March 10 while Adele will perform before 60 thousand plus fans on Saturday, March 18.
If there’s someone in your family whose face would light up on Christmas morning with a ticket to either Justin Bieber or Adele don’t leave it a day longer!
