It’s Time for an Upgrade! |
Change is here. Change is ongoing. Change is necessary.
Fun isn’t it?
No matter what industry or organisation you move to, change will follow you.
Ready to dismantle all that you knew and all that was comfortable, many individuals will find it difficult to manage the new and unfamiliar. But that’s OK.
Because “with change comes opportunity!”, right? Or something like that.
During the past month, EAN offices have undergone a relocation where we have moved from a confined and structured floor-space and onto a much more open and comfortable quarters.
When we arrived to the new offices we were all a little hesitant. Apart from the people, it was for all intents and purposes like starting for a new company.
Our tighter and confined spaces had thrust us into healthy albeit noisy open-ended communication. Sometimes it was distracting, but often it felt like you were really part of that well-oiled machine.
We sat and absorbed this new open environment.
Call it Stockholm Syndrome, but in a few days we started to feel at home.
Sure we’re a little quieter now, but immediately I felt there is still that same old sense of rapport. This new way works for us. It makes sense.
We also thinking about painting a couple walls with pretty colours. Because, well, it’s white. It’s boring. It’s the past.
I think the new colour aids the change, by giving it some flair and a symbol of the new. And dare I say it: “it can contribute to the new culture”.
Changes can be corporate-wide or small in their reach. But all should be fostered and carefully managed in their roll-out.
If change is on your agenda, ask yourself: Does the new way support your culture? Does it make sense for the environment? Will people be happier to be at work with the change?
After all, if change is here to stay, then we better get good at implementing it. And more importantly learning how to support it – pretty walls and all.
Shane Garrott is EAN’s Education and Training Manager. And apparently loves the change.
